Why Walk?

Walking is a great way to lose weight, burn body fat, increase stamina, decrease blood pressure, tone muscles, reduce stress, release endorphins, and build endurance. Walking is inexpensive, you can do it anywhere, and with proper training and knowledge you can walk through every phase of your life.
The focus of our 8 week walking clinic is having fun, building confidence, and getting out with others. The supportive and non-competitive atmosphere will stress consistent improvement in fitness and ability. We will meet at a variety of locations around Prince George to explore different trails.
A schedule of locations will be provided at the first session. Each participant will receive a weekly training schedule with a list of topics that will be discussed.
The Sole Sisters Walking Clinic is an ideal program for those interested in stress management and weight loss. Walking is an excellent form of exercise that will improve your cardiovascular and muscular fitness.
Your personal pace is entirely up to you, and you should, for the most part, be relaxed, steady, and able to carry on a conversation. Whether you are a beginning walker or already an avid walker, the Sole Sisters Waking Clinic will provide you with a comfortable progression of distances and change of pace and terrain to ensure your training is successful. You will have variety and flexibility within the program to progress according to your own level. This training program gradually progresses to having you walk a 3 – 5 km distance.
Walking is the most natural exercise you can do. Building up your distances and pace will require good concentration, so remember, this is not a stroll. We will visit many of Prince George’s beautiful trails where we will turn walking into a workout! Each night consists of a short seminar followed by a group walk of varying length and speeds.
You are encouraged to consult with your health practitioner before embarking on any new exercise program. If you have any medical concerns, such as a history of heart conditions, chest pain or dizziness, please consult your family physician to confirm your ability to start and participate in the program. Also, a proper pair of running/walking shoes is critical. We strongly recommend investing in a good pair of shoes.
